Who is the Anubias afzelii?
Very beautiful plant with a beautiful green colour. The main asset of the Anubias afzelii is that it does not need a great light to develop.
Its leaves can be up to 40 centimeters or 16 inches in aquarium. In paludarium, they will develop further to reach 60 centimeters or 23 inches.
In addition, the Anubias afzelii is very resistant to vegetarian fish thanks to its hard and rigid leaves. It can perfectly decorate an aquarium with goldfish or African cichlids.
Planting and maintenance
Planting and maintenance
How to plant and maintain the Anubias afzelii?
This plant will not require a lot of maintenance. Indeed, it is particularly robust and is not very demanding with regard to water parameters or temperature.
The Anubia will blossom further and grow faster under low light. Conversely, under a stronger light, even if it will not decay, its growth will be slowed down. Thus, it can be satisfied with a minimum brightness of 1 watt for 5 liters or 1.3 gallons of water and maximum brightness 1 watt for 2 liters or 0.5 gallons of water.
Anubias afzelii does not require a particular supply of Co2.
Farming

How to farm the Anubias afzelii?
Very easy. Take from the mother plant a healthy rhizome and in good condition (by delicately detaching it). Simply replant this new rhizome in the substrate. A new plant should soon be born!
Be careful though: when planting the new plant, it should not be completely buried in the substrate as it will decompose. Bury only the roots and leave the rhizome off the ground.

In its natural environment, Anubias afzelii lives in marshes where it grows protected from light. Its leaves can then reach 1 meter or 40 inches!
Like most Anubias, this plant is quite versatile: it will find its place in an aquarium or a paludarium.
This very robust plant is perfect for aquarium beginners.
Yours photos!
