Who is the Lizard's tail?
In nature, this plant is found in marshes. It is also an amphibious plant, capable of thriving in and out of water.
Pretty and attractive, it forms very elegant spikes when flowering. It is also a purifying plant.
Often used for ponds, it is becoming increasingly rare in aquariums. Its main use in the latter case is in "Dutch" aquariums.
Planting and maintenance
Planting and maintenance
How to plant and maintain the Lizard's tail?
Preferably let it protrude from the water surface (ideal for open aquariums!). It will then grow to about 30 centimetres. Plant the feet in groups of 3-4 every 20 cm (8"). If you want to put it in a basket, choose a basket size of at least 15x25x25 cm.
Bright lighting will promote its good growth. Otherwise, it may wither away. But even under ideal conditions, this plant grows quite slowly with one new leaf per month.
The ideal planting season for this species is from March to September.
During the summer it will look good in an outdoor pond, which it decorates with its beautiful creamy white flowers. It will be able to fix the banks. If it likes the location, it could reach 1 meter high!

How to farm the Lizard's tail?
It is quite easy to multiply Saururus cernuus. Cut off portions of about 15 cm or 6" from the mother foot and replant them a little further. Be very delicate during the operation so as not to crush the fragile stem.
